A clear image requires a clean lens

OpClear® – How it works

OpClear® is a single use disposable sheath and tube set that attaches to the laparoscope. The Disposable is connected to the OpClear® Control Unit that directs carbon dioxide (CO2) and saline into the sheath and across the tip of the laparoscope. This control unit acts independently of the insufflator but uses the standard gas supply.

OpClear® Control Unit

The control unit provides on demand medical grade CO2 and a saline solution to the disposable sheath to clear the laparoscope lens.

Abdominal Cavity Pressure Indicator

When lit this indicator shows the abdominal cavity pressure.

Display

Displays the Auto demist function, user instructions and error messages.

Wash Port

Connects tubing for the saline flow from the control unit to the disposable sheath.

Filter

Stops saline from travelling into the control unit.

CO2 to Patient Port

Connects tubing for the CO2 flow from control unit to the disposable sheath.

Filter

Provides a barrier to protect the patient and OpClear® control unit.

Saline Reservoir

Cartridge is filled with 10ml saline for the wash function.

Footswitch

The footswitch is pressed on demand to activate the wash function.

All debris on the lens created by vaporised fats, smearing and blood is removed on demand by a simple tap of a footswitch. This quickly and effectively washes the lens with a combination of CO2 and saline.

An automatic demist function will remove and prevent fogging of the lens throughout the procedure, without operator assistance.

Benefits

OpClear® – Delivers cost savings

In 2012 an independent study by Kings College Hospital observed 64 hours of laparoscopic surgery with an average operating time of 2hr 40 mins. The results showed that 37% of the procedure was performed with suboptimal vision and 7% was spent cleaning the laparoscope which averaged a removal of 13 times per procedure or 11mins 12 seconds.

Based on this data with OR time costing up to $62 per minute the average cost of cleaning the laparoscope could be $682.00 per procedure. Additional cost savings will be made by eradicating the need for other antifogging, warming and cleaning products such as scope warmers and FRED.

OpClear® – Reduces patient risk

OpClear® significantly reduces or eliminates the removal of the laparoscope during the procedure which allows immediate management of bleeding vessels and maintains the surgical workflow. With less movement on the trocar due to removing the laparoscope port site, displacement and traction is minimised.

By helping to save procedural time patients can spend less time under anaesthetics and be in the recovery ward quicker.

OpClear® – Helps to extend the laparoscope’s life

Using OpClear® means the scope is protected. Keeping the lens clean of dried particulates reduces scope maintenance. There is no need to coat the lens with surfactants or plunge it into hot water which will help to prolong the service intervals.

The OpClear® sheath is compatible with the majority of rigid laparoscopes and accommodates 0o and 30o angled lenses.
